From exposure to prevention-oriented health

EIRENE-AT (Exposome Austria) coordinates Austria’s contribution to the European research infrastructure EIRENE, dedicated to understanding how environmental exposures shape human health.

We provide advanced analytical tools as open-access services, enabling researchers to study exposure across the life course using high-resolution mass spectrometry.

Our work supports the global shift from reactive ("repair") medicine to preventive and personalised health.

EIRENE-AT is supported by strong institutional commitment and four Austrian federal ministries, reflecting its strategic importance for science, health and innovation.

While our genome explains only up to one third of the risk for chronic diseases or cancer, environmental exposures — diet, food or life style — account for at least two thirds, and in some cases up to 90 percent of disease risk.
